Destination Wedding at Fort George, Vis Island | Sophie & James

Fort George wedding –  Getting married on Croatian hidden gem – island of Vis

If we would have to choose between Croatian islands for the perfect wedding destination, the island of Vis would be definitely high on our list. This island is completely unique and simply exudes “Croatian tradition”, not to mention that is almost like a hidden gem as it’s not that crowded with tourists as other islands in Dalmatia. The island of Vis has a unique scenery of untouched nature which makes destination weddings in Croatia even more popular.

Sophie and JP by Croatian Wedding Photographer

Today, we’re bringing you adventurous destination wedding in Croatia by Sophie and JP who fell in love with the island of Vis at the first glance. The couple we met were true adventurous spirits and they both love to travel and visit countries with lots of sun and beautiful beaches, so it was pretty obvious that they would opt for this hidden gem in the Adriatic sea. They wanted something rustic, something traditional and they found it here, in Croatia. The bride visited Croatia about ten years ago therefore she  simply fell in love with its islands, gastronomy, relaxed atmosphere and warm people and when she told JP about this country’s beauty he fell in love with it too.

They looked for the perfect wedding venue in Croatia and when they saw Fort George on the island of Vis they immediately knew that this is their perfect wedding venue.

Fort George is famous for its purpose to serve as the island’s shield from the famous Napoleon and his French army. The fort is built in 1812 by the British army,  so it kind of makes sense that this British couple was attracted to the venue immediately.

The Wedding Preparations in traditional Croatian stone house

Sophie and James chose a beautiful, traditional, stone house Villa Felis for their place where they did all their wedding preparations. The interior design of the croatian luxury  villa is all but boring with lots of modern and antique details that gives a truly eclectic and unique style. What impressed us most is villa’s garden with lots of lemon and orange trees that provided a beautiful scent all over the place.

The terrace of the villa was another great option for shooting wedding photos and gave the feel like we could sit there all day not doing anything but drinking coffee and enjoy the view. The scenery for this destination wedding was like we were in heaven. The bride and groom decided to exchange their gifts where JP received a really unique and kind of funny present – a “How it works: The Husband” book written by Joel Morris and Jason Hazeley.

Croatian wedding venue with magnificent view

Sophie and JP asked a wedding celebrant Hannah Hart to join them at their wedding and we have to admit that she did her job perfectly and made an excellent speech about the bride and groom. She did research about the couple and spoke to their closest friends and family member as well. This was the first time we saw this much laughter during the wedding ceremony.

When we arrived at the famous Fort George some of their guests were already there and we were offered with welcome drinks. Fort George was the perfect Croatian destination wedding venue as it provides a magnificent view. We decided to take advantage of this beautiful natural scenery and filmed the island of Vis from the air with our drone camera. The wedding venue was decorated with lots of personalized pictures by the couple with their close friends and family that were hanging down the poles and trees.

At the beginning of the ceremony, Sophie and JP’s close friend Pie Jim started to play the guitar while the bride walked the aisle. After that, Pie Jim started to play and sing the song by Frankie Valli and The 4 Seasons “Can’t Take My Eyes off You”, both bride and groom joined singing together and soon after all off their guests joined this lovely couple singing, except they spiced up the song by playing music on kazoos.

The speech by their wedding celebrant Hannah Hart was remarkable, it was funny and emotional at the same time and we would say that it was the most memorable ceremony we have attended.

The wedding party that is no ordinary.

The bride and the groom have such fun personalities and spirit and we were amazed how good they are in throwing a wedding party that is no ordinary. When they asked us to be a part of their wedding we knew that we will have plenty of material for their wedding album. The panoramic view of the Adriatic sea and the rustic feel of the fort attracted us as much as it attracted them to have a destination  wedding in Croatia – one of the best  destination Weddings Europe spot.

It was a couple of times that I couldn’t hold the camera steady as I was laughing so hard at their adventures and stories, but lucky for the couple, we look at our business professionally so we brought our entire team with us, like we knew we will have plenty of materials to shoot.

In case you don’t live in the United Kingdom, we have to mention this fun fact that our groom is a true celebrity there. He’s known as the guy who ordered Kindle and got a tumor sample instead. He was all over the news and this is what made speeches of their loved ones emotional and funny at the same time. What also surprised us was their wedding cake that was not traditional. They had a real cheese three-tier wedding cake which is one of the top wedding trends today.

Except for Hannah Hart, the bride and groom also invited DJ PhatPLastic who entertained their guests ‘till early morning hours. As a result, he created a funky atmosphere and the couple wore fun masks and painted their faces which was a true delight for us, wedding photographers. Yet again a fun wedding celebration that ended too soon as we wanted to last forever. JP and Sophie’s Croatian destination wedding was great with lots of smiles, blue skies, shiny sea and nature that surrounded the entire island of Vis. We wish Sophie and JP a life of peach and perfect union together always and forever.
