Getting married in Dubrovnik Old City
Once people arrive in Dubrovnik, even from a far away country such as Canada, they always say: “I have to come here again… this place is beautiful…”
Mira and Mike felt the same – their fascination by the sights, sounds and scents in Dubrovnik’s Old Town culminated in their decision to have a destination wedding in Dubrovnik, wedding in Croatia.
A destination wedding – especially a wedding in Croatia – means that you and your wedding party actually go on a vacation and get married while honeymooning! Getting married in Croatia, in one of Dubrovnik’s unique wedding venues, is an unrepeatable experience both for you and your nearest and dearest – you get to enjoy yourselves at leisure, immerse yourselves in the beauty of your surroundings and tie the knot without any stress or hassle… Plus, on your return home, everybody REALLY wants to see your photos! And the destination wedding photographers from DT Studio make sure that you have plenty to show.
Mira and Mike stayed at luxury villa with a pool in Dubrovnik, dating from 19th century but recently completely renovated, providing all the contemporary amenities combined with the magic charm of traditional Mediterranean gardens, unbelievably beautiful views of the Adriatic Sea and the spirit and charm of olden times… No wonder then that most of the photos in which Mira prepares for the wedding ceremony were taken in its elegant rooms; and Mira’s wedding dress from Badgley Mischka (Irene) collection shows all its glorious splendour hung in a large sun-bathed window. The bridesmaids’ dresses also soaked in some additional beauty aired in a sunny window.
On the other hand, Mike took a different approach to wedding preparations: in the outdoor swimming pool, with his friends. The dream of every groom!
Church wedding in Old City of Dubrovnik
Among numerous wedding venues in Dubrovnik, Mira and Mike set their hearts on having the ceremony performed at St. Ignatius Church, a 17th-century beauty perched on top of a monumental, yet romantic baroque staircase modelled on the Spanish Steps in Rome. Surrounded by friends, family, ornate frescoes and works of art, Mira and Mike said their “I do’s” and then strolled through Ruđer Bošković Poljana (Field), past Collegium Ragusinum, Dubrovnik’s Jesuit college which “all the wisest townspeople” once attended, and into Dubrovnik’s Old Port, where a Karaka – a replica of a traditional 16th century ship (which was the era of The Republic of Dubrovnik), also known in English as “an Argosy” or “a carrack”, was waiting to take them to the island of Koločep and the most beautiful terrace in the Dubrovnik area – Villa Ruža, for the night-long party.
Wedding reception in Villa Rose, Kolocep
Koločep is one of the three Elaphite Islands west of Dubrovnik, once renowned for its shipbuilding and skilled sailors (two members of Christopher Columbus’ crew on Santa Maria were from this tiny island), and today famous for its lush vegetation, sparkling clear sea, hidden coves and numerous hiking trails. Villa Ruža, built in 1930s by a rich merchant from Dubrovnik for his beloved wife, sits on a seaside rock in a deep shadow of pine trees at the entrance to Donje Ćelo Bay. This unique place, with its serenity, unforgettable views and magic atmosphere is certainly one of the most romantic places and most perfect wedding party venues on the Adriatic Coast. Or anywhere in the world, for that matter.
Well, Mira and Mike wanted it all and they had it all: a big bridal party with 8 groomsmen and 6 bridesmaids who followed them everywhere, they had golden, sunny moments on the jetty and clear blue skies, they had gentle Mediterranean breeze rustling their hair and clothes, but they also had heavy clouds darkening the sky over Koločep and lightning and thunder interrupting the crickets’ song late in the evening.
All in all, this destination wedding in Dubrovnik, Croatia was perfect for Mira and Mike and their friends from all over the world: it was both dreamlike and adventurous. They all loved all of it!
