It would be easy to photograph this place for how it looks. We have ended up photographing it for how it behaves. The thing we watch for does not happen at the ceremony; it happens earlier, usually on the first evening, when the guests work out that nobody is going home. You can see it land on a face. The shoulders drop. We have come to think of San Canzian weddings as a stretch of time more than a set of pictures, and most of what makes them is set in motion before the dress is out of its bag.
